Waiting!

Casey at a training this summer and Derek in Iraq.

Our house is in the waiting stage. Waiting to hear from Derek from Iraq, with the excitement that he will be coming home. And holding our breath, waiting to hear when Casey will leave for Iraq. I like to think I'm able to handle the wait. But this past week it seems to have caught up with me at times. I hang on the phone when they call and hang up. We say, "I love you, see you soon, thanks for calling and then bye!" But I wait, after they have hung up. I just sit there with the cell phone on my ear, waiting. For what, I'm not sure?
Having adult children is a whole new experience, but having adult children in other countries with danger around each corner, people who wish to do harm to them and many others, is not what I was waiting for when they were preschoolers. Waiting for them to crawl, walk and then to go to school, waiting for the elementary years to end so they would be all grown up and more independent. And then waiting for that graduation day. And finally the moving out and now~

I'm so proud of them, that just typing it makes me cry, but the waiting is the hardest of all.

So to all those waiting and wishing for their children to move from one stage to the next.
DON'T!

Cherish each one, write them down, take pictures of them, watch with appreciation and gratefulness. This is going to be the most unsual Thanksgiving for us, so I just have to share some pictures of what I'm Thankful for and waiting for.
I'm also so very Thankful for our younger two children, Brian 13 and Andrea 11 who we shared School Thanksgiving lunch with today. It's a tradition here in KS. that we are learning to take part in. I still forgot the camera though!!! LOL
While we wait we are watching videos and check out the photos, waiting for official word that Derek has landed. We won't go to meet him in Indiana, but we can sure feel the love from all these photos and videos that families are extending to their soldiers...
Sunday evening Nov. 23
UPDATE!! The Foxtrot unit family connection person called and Derek's plane lands on Wed. the 26th at 6:35 am in Indianapolis...
We will surely get a call from him when he gets on US soil before that.. We did have a call yesterday and he's out of Iraq. so that is welcome news....
Casey UPDATE! His unit leaves on Dec 2, he will be spending Thanksgiving with family of one of his buddies there near Ft. Bragg!~
