The plane arrived at 6:35 am in Indianapolis, Indiana, some 300 soldiers were arriving back in the US. For us it's our son, Specialist Derek Adrian Williams Thompson, who is most important. But we live in Kansas and there is only an hour allowed to visit before the soldiers are wisk away for 5 days of debriefings. So Derek didn't have the huge hug that we wanted to give him, or the sign we would have had to get his attention, but Where-theres-a-will-theres-a-way~~
ONE SHOULD NEVER UNDER-ESTIMATE A MOTHER!
After talking to him 3 or so times yesterday and sleeping better lastnight knowing that both our sons are on US soil... I found today this info on the IndyStar.com site...
The solider on the end of the front row on the right is DEREK!
Yes, I searched it out and after asking him about the arrival he said, "I just jumped up there and got in line.." (he always tends to like to be in the front of the line anyway) LOL. So off to the internet I went this morning at 4 am... (up to load the wood stove anyway) And sure enough with all the other great photos and the stories of the families that I have followed on this site the past year.. The photo that "I" wanted to see...
What is it about just SEEING your child, (and even more after your child has been in Iraq) you just want to lay your eyes on them!!
His voice sounded great, even if I felt he was dissapointed not to see any of his famly there when they marched in.. I know that he's safe, happy, and ready to come home to Kansas. And now at least I can see him and all the wonderful WELCOME HOME, celebrations that happened.
THANKS SO MUCH FOR ALL OUR AMERICAN SOLDIERS TOO~
