Weather wise it was the typical weekend. Gray clouds with some wind and just enough rain to make it ICKY outside. The company was super and so was the food.. We did the usual, hung out around the house, with lots of food (even homemade ice cream) and played some cards to keep the kids happy, worked on some home remodeling jobs and attended a memorial service. We did also discuss the 2 family birthdays this month, my fathers on May 10th and mine May 21st. We chatted about past family members, those in the military and those who have just passed. Remembering, sharing stories and two phone calls from our son in Baghdad were by far the best parts of the weekend for me.
Past years we have not attended an official Memorial service where the names of those that gave their lives for service to the country are read aloud. Generally ,as a child we would go to the graves and place flowers, remember and talk about the loved ones passed on. Both sets of my grandparents are gone now. Many Aunts and Uncles and some cousins have passed. My husband has lost his grandparents and his father as well as a sister. Since we are a family living the past year and half with a son deployed. (we are on the second son, second year) Even with past military members on all sides of our families they have all passed. Some before my husband or I were even born and difently many before we had the same type of patriotism that we do now. So for those that gave, so that we would have the freedom that we do today. THANKS!
Here are pictures of the ceremony that we attended.
